This is a comic strip I created for a project in 8th grade. I used only pens that varied in thickness. I am an avid Ice Hockey player and I started playing when I was seven years old, which became my inspiration for this project, specifically a shootout. This piece shows what each stage of a shootout looks like in my mind. I first mapped out my different frame lengths. I decided to have a long shot, close-up, close-up, medium shot, and medium shot frame in that order. I sketched the box surrounding each frame and drew the important features inside each frame in pencil, referencing different images. I then went over the pencil with pen and added greater detail going from frame to frame. Through this design process, I gained much experience and learned many drawing techniques in using a pen. I discovered how to add depth and texture using hatching and cross-hatching, differing line weights, and other simple techniques.
