My entire 3D Design class collaborated together on this project to create a giant cardboard refrigerator. I worked with a partner to construct the actual fridge, while everyone else created individual food items that were placed inside of the fridge. Regardless of our different design processes, we all shared a common thread: cardboard. Except for about 1% of the final product, this life-size fridge was constructed using only cardboard and glue. The greatest challenge of this project was creating the right measurements to accommodate everyone's piece, which often varied in dimensions. Although, I believe that this challenge is what makes the project captivating. The fridge establishes an interesting contrast between a consistently simple and dull material and a diverse range of constituents, which are an expression of each individual artist. Overall, this project as a whole reveals a deeper truth that beauty and complexity can result from something that lacks it.
