This 15'x20'x6' inflatable, powered by a single box fan, was solely made out of plastic and tape. The plastic material came in sheets of 10'x25' and were similar to the material of a garbage bag. The inflatable design was my idea and my motivation was to provoke a certain mood in the participants of the interactive art. More specifically, I wanted the audience to feel a kind of ominous claustrophobia as they walked through the inflatable. For the design process, my group and I drew out the blueprint of this contraption to be a U-like shape with a system of internal hallways and mazes. In addition, the length of every side and wall was determined and labeled. We first cut out and assembled the floor and ceiling pieces, then began to create all of the walls. After much tracing, cutting, taping, and a final layering of velcro on the door, my group and I were able to construct this final product, which inflated completely on the first try. Through this design process, we were confined to a tight work space and had to construct a 3D object with a 2D view, as it wasn't possible to inflate the project and work on it at the same time. My group developed a system of efficient teamwork, accepted failure and learned from mistakes. As a side note, the benches around the project only served to weigh down the inflatable, as it was a windy day when the photos were taken.
